makayla’s birth stories

I often talk with my doula clients on how they can envision a good birth experience for themselves. This usually includes watching, listening to, or reading about encouraging birth stories. Whether they be from people you know personally, a video from instagram, or from a book you’ve read, birth is sacred and there are so many wonderful stories that we can fill our hearts and minds with. The more you learn about good birthing experiences, the higher your confidence will be when you feel those first strong waves of your very own labor.

I have been graced by three beautiful birthing experiences. Truly, I am aware of and unworthy of the blessing of having three uncomplicated pregnancies, three semi-smooth birthing experiences, and three healthy children. All glory to my Jesus. Because of this, I am willing to open these pieces of my heart and share with you some encouraging birthing stories. If you want to read about them, click the link below! (:

Hi friends! I’m Makayla Krick and I will eternally be having a “pinch me” moment because I truly can’t believe I have the honor of serving women and families during such a beautiful and transformative time in their lives.

I am a Lincoln native and have thoroughly enjoyed creating a slow, simple life with my growing family. My husband, Nathan, and I have three children, my youngest was born last winter. When I say I am here with you, in this with you… I truly am. Becoming a mother is endlessly sacrificial, it is an incredible calling in this life, and I admire each and every one of you for your willingness to give of yourself to create life for another. How beautiful you are! Alongside raising children, I like to think I have a green thumb in my backyard garden, I love cooking, I love a good historical fiction novel or book about motherhood, and I love spending quiet time with Jesus. I take my coffee with a splash of half & half and I can listen to Needtobreathe all day long!

Sometime in 2020 when my motherhood journey began, I started to feel a nudge to really dive into my experience with breastfeeding- the good, the bad and the ugly. It was hard, I struggled, and out of pure grit I eventually nursed my child well into her second year of life. I was so grateful, but I wouldn’t wish it on another new mom to have to go through it alone. Cue the calling to become a breastfeeding specialist and eventually a birth doula & postpartum doula. I have now had three different birthing experiences of my own, have been breastfeeding for almost 4 years straight, and am learning each day how to embrace my role as a mother.

Alas, after years of prayer, formal education, community connection, learning and relearning, advocating and trusting the process… Golden Hour has come to fruition. I am here to serve you, to walk with you, and to encourage you along this journey of motherhood. Together we will find hands for you to hold from people that do love you, and you will flourish where you are meant to be! See you soon!

birth doula, postpartum doula

Hello Friends!

Welcome to Golden Hour, I am so glad you are here. My name is Lucy Simpson and I’m honored to serve you as a birth and postpartum doula.

A little bit about me and how my journey has brought me here… I was born and raised in Lincoln, NE and grew up with my three younger sisters and loving parents. My mom stayed home with us growing up and by her example of living out her motherhood, I knew at an early age, I wanted to be a mom too.

Fast forward, God led me to my amazing, supportive husband and has blessed us with three beautiful daughters. With all three of my births, I was fortunate enough to have a doula by my side throughout pregnancy, birth and into postpartum. These women made a huge impact on me and on my birth experiences that inspired me to this calling.

I strive to be guiding voice and a peaceful presence as I support you emotionally, physically and spiritually through your pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Thank you for your ‘Yes’ to motherhood... it is truly an adventure, where I am honored to walk with you.
